The Gandolfi Science Museum Exhibition

Science Museum Stand 1a

In 1979 Fred Gandolfi approached the Science Museum who were receptive of the suggestion for a dedicated Gandolfi exhibition, which took place in 1980.
It took the form of 2 large display cabinets, with many of Fred’s ‘work in progress’ pieces that he used when lecturing.
After the Kensington show the exhibit eventually was taken in by the Media Museum in Bradford, where much of it is still on show in the reference library.

Fred instigated a charitable foundation, the aim to help with their care as the brothers Fred & Arthur were becoming increasingly infirm in the late 80’s. The charity was administered by Ken Griffiths and his assistant Val Simmonds. An auction of prints by top photographers was organised for April 27’th 1989, accompanied by a champagne reception followed by a fashion show. The photographers who covered the event are currently unknown, as are the whereabouts of the negs, but here are the contact sheets of the event….
